interviewwith BLUELINE employees

Ryuto IMAHARIYAMA
Joined BLUELINE in 2023 (fresh graduates)

What is the main reason you wanted to join BLUELINE?

I spent a bit longer as a student because I played too much than my friends around me when I was at university. When I was looking for a job, I thought what I wanted to do, but I could only come up with vague ideas, such as working overseas using English or being involved in the rental and sale of real estate that are necessary for our daily life. At that time, I found BLUELINE website and learnt that this company work is connected to overseas and one of business is to buy, sell and manage real estate, so I decided to join the company.

What kind of work do you do?

I have been with the company for two years, and when I am in Japan, I often prepare documents related to exhibition transport at the office. I sometimes accompany my boss or senior employees to meetings with customers, or go to Tokyo Big Sight or Makuhari Messe to check cargo coming from overseas.
My overseas business trips have also increased. In the past year, I have had the opportunity to go to Saudi Arabia, Germany, the USA and Oman, sometimes for three nights and four days, sometimes for a month or more. My main work involves checking cargo at the exhibition halls, as well as meetings and coordination at the ports.
I recently had the opportunity to go on a business trip by myself for the first time, and there are many things I have to learn on messenger application, by e-mail and on the phone, so I have a new appreciation of the depth of my work. I still have a lot to learn from my seniors.
I hope that one day I will be able to approach the seniors and become a role model for all new recruits.

What kind of company is BLUELINE?

Although we do not have many employees, we have subcontractors and distributors all over the world and are connected to many countries and regions. Someone is always on an overseas business trip.
We have departments for exhibitions and events transportation, handling military aircrafts and ships of Japan Self-Defense Forces, and real estate sales for foreign customers, so I believe we can gain a variety of experiences through our work. The company also offers good benefits, including allowances for those who acquire qualifications that can be useful at our work, so I think it is an interesting place to work for those who are willing to take on new challenges. I myself have started studying to acquire qualifications such as Real Estate Notary and The Official Business Skill Test in Book-keeping 1st grade.
Also, it is easy to take holidays, so I am thinking of taking a long holiday during the year-end and New Year holidays, together with paid holidays, and going to Okinawa, where I spent my school days, to see old friends.

Do you have any message for those considering applying?

I mentioned that I wanted to work in an English-speaking job, but when I joined this company, I only had a TOEIC score of 330. I consider my current TOEIC score to be 850.
Although the job involves a lot of interaction with people overseas, don't give up just because you are not good at English. It's tough at first, but you can always learn English if you keep studying it, as it's better to get used to it than to learn it. Of course, even if you are already good at English, you can gain good experience through doing business with the world. It is a very rewarding job, where you see the different customs and religions in different countries and regions, and derive the optimum solution through trial and error.
